Do You Need to Brush Better? If You See These Signs, The Answer Is Yes!

Do You Need to Brush Better? If You See These Signs, The Answer Is Yes!Everyone knows how to brush their teeth – it's so simple, a child could do it, right? You add a pea-sized dollop of toothpaste to your brush and go at your teeth for two minutes and you're done. Easy peasy!

But did you know that you might be brushing your teeth the wrong way? These three signs are a good hint that you're not brushing your teeth quite as well as you may think.

Three Red Flags You're Not Brushing Correctly

You know to use a soft-bristled brush, and you know to brush at a 45-degree angle, but could you be doing better with your tooth brushing regimen?

If you suffer from any of these problems, you just might need to step up your tooth-brushing game!

•  You have halitosis. Halitosis is dentist-speak for bad breath and if you have it, you may not even know it. If a well-meaning peer tips you off, then you may need to look at your tooth brushing habit. You may have food trapped between your teeth, gum disease, or plaque buildup.
•  You have tooth decay. Having cavities is a sure sign you're not properly brushing your teeth. Take a hard look at your diet and take extra care to get those teeth clean to prevent unwanted caries.
•  Your gums are bleeding. This is a huge red flag! Bleeding gums are an early sign of gingivitis, a disease that causes redness, swelling, and bleeding. If not treated, it could lead to periodontal disease and tooth loss.

Develop Good Dental Habits

If you're struggling with cavities or smelly breath, it could cause you embarrassment or discomfort. Over time, you may become at risk for losing your teeth.

Be sure to use a soft bristled brush with rounded tips, a fluoride-based toothpaste, and brush for two minutes at a 45-degree angle. And if you need a quick refresher on how to brush, give our office a call and our professional staff can show you how to properly maintain your smile!
