During the warm summer months, your child will love to spend time at the park. Unfortunately, the playground is a hotspot for injuries, including those to his teeth. While accidents can still happen regardless of how safe you are being, taking a few precautions can reduce your child's chances of breaking or knocking out a tooth on the playground this summer. Skip the Sandals While sandals might be a convenient footwear option, as your child can slip them on and go out the door, they are bad choices when it comes time to run around. Sneakers are the best option for the playground, as they will provide the support and stability that he needs in order to play without worrying about tripping or falling as a result of his footwear. Examine Playground EquipmentBefore you turn your child loose on the playground, take some time to inspect the equipment to look for hazards. Older playground sets may have broken equipment or other problems that could cause an injury. Also, if it has recently rained the equipment may become slippery and dangerous.Dress Your Child in Appropriate ClothingWhen playing on the playground, it is important that your child wears clothes that fit properly. Baggy pants, shirts that are too large, or flowing skirts and dresses can easily become caught in playground equipment when your child is running around. If your child wears clothes that fit better, including shirts and shorts that are more form-fitting, you'll reduce the risk of him getting caught up on something while he is playing. It is also important to constantly supervise your child at the park if you want to prevent injuries. Additionally, if an injury does occur, the fact that you are there will allow you to take action right away to get your child help, do so by contacting our office. |
