We follow the American Dental Association’s Update to Office Procedures During COVID-19 in regard to safe office procedures, workplace hazards, and making decisions for best office practices. We stay informed on recent information given to dentists in this regard, as well as keeping up to date with any changes recommended by the CDC.  A partially dislodged tooth happens when you take a blow or fall, and the tooth gets knocked out. But what to do if you partially dislodge a tooth and have no access to a dentist?If you're wondering whether a partially dislodged tooth can be saved, the answer is yes, it can, but this depends on what you do immediately following the accident and if you get to our office as quickly as possible. If you play any sport, whether there is contact or not, we highly recommend that you use a mouth guard to protect your teeth from a violent blow. What Should You Do if a Tooth Becomes Dislodged?Whether the blow is severe enough to dislodge the tooth from the jawbone or if it's knocked out from the gum line, knowing what to do can be critical to saving the tooth. If the accident happens during business hours, it is extremely important to get to our office as quickly as you can.Ideally within an hour. While waiting for treatment from the dentist you can help control the pain with over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen and by using an ice pack to the affected area. If the tooth is moving around, do not try to pull it out. Your dentist can still save the tooth even if it's wiggling. Once you get to the office, the dentist will determine if the tooth is still connected to the nerves and blood vessels, and if it is, it can still be saved. The dentist will clean the area and clear the open wound of any particles. The tooth can be put back in and held with a splint, which will help the it heal in the correct position. In many instances a root canal is necessary if you partially dislodge a tooth. |
