You may have been thinking of getting veneers for a while now. You are looking at your teeth in the mirror, and you are wondering if veneers could help the overall look of your teeth. Can veneers fix all of your dental imperfections? The short answer is - no. The longer answer is that while veneers can fix a multitude of dental issues, veneers can't fix all dental issues, because of the way veneers are made. Dental Imperfections and VeneersVeneers are thin porcelain shells that fit over our natural teeth. For this reason, veneers are great for covering cracked, chipped and misshapen teeth, which makes your smile look more uniform. Veneers are also great for covering teeth that have been stained or discolored due to caffeine, tobacco or wine.Sometimes, people who have taken drugs for chemotherapy also can benefit from veneers. However, veneers cannot fix everything. There are times when veneers would not be appropriate for you. For example, if your teeth are crooked, out of place within your mouth, or when one tooth has crossed over another, veneers cannot be used on your teeth, because in most cases, the teeth need to be uniform and aligned. You may need to think about braces for your teeth first, rather than veneers. Also, veneers cannot fix teeth that have been broken off, or that have completely cracked. In cases such as those, dental implants or bridges may be a better choice, since your tooth or teeth may need to be completely replaced. If you have concerns about the look of your teeth, and you think you might need veneers, or other restorative dental work, why not give us a call? We would love to make you an appointment, so that we can talk to you about your options to give you the best smile possible. |
