![]() If you think that you may have a dead tooth in your mouth, you may not think it is that big of a deal. Your tooth may not be hurting. It may not feel infected. Why not just keep a dead tooth in place in your gums? There are several reasons a dead tooth can be a problem. What Causes Dead Teeth?Teeth can die for a variety of reasons. You may have inherited a weak tooth from one of your parents. The tooth will have very little blood flow, and without blood, your tooth will die. You may also have a dead tooth because of an accident or an injury. The tooth may get “knocked” away from its blood supply, and it will slowly die. The main reason people's teeth die is because of tooth decay or gum disease. While neither of these diseases are dangerous if they are caught early, if they aren't, you can lose teeth because of infection. Why Dead Teeth Are a ProblemIt is unlikely that a dead tooth will hang out in your mouth forever. Eventually, the tooth will fall out on its own. However, before it does, a diseased tooth can spread infection to other teeth and gums. Over time, this could cause you to lose more teeth. Losing more teeth could cause damage to the shape of your jaw.It can affect your bite and may even make it painful for you to chew. Luckily, we can help you decide what to do about that dead tooth. Why not give us a call today and let us make you an appointment. The sooner we can remove your dead tooth, the better your mouth will feel. |
