![]() There are patches you fold over your teeth, mouthpieces you sleep with, even paste with your own ultraviolet light. The biggest problem people at home face is burning the enamel off your teeth. The questions we get a lot is, “Are there the same risks when you have your teeth whitened professionally?” Whitening Kits for HomeWhen you purchase a teeth whitening kit to do at home, it comes pre-packaged with whitening material. They all contain a variety of different chemicals, but the main ingredient in all of them is hydrogen peroxide. With your home kits, they all have different recommended lengths of time.To protect people's teeth, they limit the kits to 6% percent of hydrogen peroxide. Even at a low amount, if you leave them in too long or you repeat the process too often, it is very easy to end up with a mouthful of cavities down the road. Many have fallen victim to this by roasting the enamel off their teeth Professional WhiteningWhen you come to our office, it takes about an hour and a half to perform the procedure. Under the supervision of our dentist, we apply a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and sodium bicarbonate. Our mixture is 30% hydrogen peroxide. Over a period of about 30 minutes, we will remove and reapply the mixture in combination with ultraviolet light. Dental supervision allows us to protect your teeth and whiten them in one sitting. In one sitting, we can do what would take 3-4 months at home.By using professional help, you protect your teeth. Everyone's habits dictate the length they can withstand bleaching before they are causing damage to their teeth. If you are considering having your teeth whitened, call us today. We can schedule a convenient time and better in person, walk you through the process. You only have one set of teeth and your oral health should never suffer at the attempt of brightening your smile. |
