Laser Dental Treatment
Prescott Valley, AZ

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a condition that affects many adults in their 30s and 40s. When it first pops up, you may not even notice it. The only indications are inflamed gums and bleeding while you brush and floss (which is often attributed to using too much force). As it progresses, it becomes worse. Bacteria falls below inflamed gums, infecting your teeth, and supporting jawbone. Infection can even spread into the bloodstream, contributing to health conditions that seemingly have nothing to do with your mouth, including diabetes and heart disease. At Bradshaw Family Dental, we strive to provide you with the best oral health care possible, and will do everything necessary to restore your mouth to its former health. To do this, we employ the use of the latest technological advances. One of these technological advances is the use of laser treatment.

Treating Gum Disease

The treatment of gum disease usually requires a deep cleaning, known as scaling and root planing. Scaling removes plaque and tartar (hardened plaque that cannot be removed with regular brushing) from the entire surface of your teeth, both above and below the gum line. A special scaling tool is used to do this and an antimicrobial agent is administered below the gums to kill lingering bacteria. Root planing is then done to remove plaque, bacteria and toxins from the roots of your teeth, smoothing the surface to prevent new bacteria from collecting.

How Does the Laser Help?

The use of laser treatment in dentistry is a relatively new technology, but studies have found that it can help greatly in treating gum disease when used in conjunction with scaling and root planing. Lasers are equipped with different wavelengths to fit specific levels of treatment. It is used to remove inflamed gum tissue from around the root of the tooth in order to allow Dr. Andrew Zeiger to begin the scaling and root planing procedures. It may also be used to remove tartar buildup on teeth. Lasers can also be used to clean deep periodontal pockets of infection.

Other Uses for Laser Treatment

Lasers can be used for more than just treating gum disease. They can be used to remove decay from teeth, and prepare them for fillings. The laser can also harden the filling as well. They can also be used for preparing teeth for crowns. Laser treatments can be used to whiten teeth. They may also be used to remove questionable lesions for biopsies. Lasers can also be used to regenerate the tissues of bones and ligaments.

Benefits of Laser Treatment

While the use of lasers in the dental office is still fairly new, they offer numerous benefits:
•  Less pain. This means less anesthesia.
•  Stops bleeding right away.
•  Less invasive. Gums do not need to be cut for periodontal treatment. This also means less pain after treatment.
•  More accurate.
•  Less swelling.
•  Can seal deep periodontal pockets.
•  Helps save teeth.
•  Preserves more of the tooth in the instance of preparing cavities for filling.
•  Can help aid those who have a fear of the dental offices.

Using the latest technology allows us to provide you with the best treatment options available. For more information on laser treatments, call (928) 277-0076 today.
